Very Vegan Sunday Field Trip

Let’s cut to the chase, here’s the info for the next Very Vegan Sunday (VVS) extravaganza at SoMa StrEat Food:

Sunday, March 13th 2016 (Doors 11am)
SoMa StrEat Food Park, 428 11th St., SF
>> FREE all day with Facebook RSVP

Great. Now that we all have RSVP’d and have it on our Google calendars, let’s talk about this. I think we can all agree (especially if you’re vegan) that it has been really depressing to see all of our favorite vegan spots go out of business or leave San Francisco. The issue became personal for me when the Herbivore just two blocks away from my apartment on Divisadero closed down (yes, we now make the pilgrimage to Herbivore Mission, but holy hell do we miss the convenience of our local tofu scramble…). Sad days. I’m sure in the next year there will be new vegan restaurants in the area, but until then, I’m glad that we have VVS to help us out and satisfy our brunching ways (vegans like to brunch, too!). Here’s a look at what we sunk our teeth into at the last VVS.

First, we tried the tacos from Taqueria La Venganza. Oh, man. You have to get these tacos. It looks like real meat, doesn’t it? It’s not! But it’s a deliciously fatty as meat and the fresh cilantro is a really nice touch.

Hella Vegan Eats curried breakfast burrito! We’ve been hearing about Hella Vegan Eats since we moved up to the city. People have told me that you just can’t go wrong when you order from this food truck, and they were right! We decided to try their breakfast burrito, and I really liked the big chucks of avocado with their Indian inspired curried tofu filling. Yum.

Firetrail Pizza (they do vegan!). My favorite vegan pizza is from Beretta (drooling). But Firetrail came in at a close second. The veggie meat topping was flavorful, and they put just the right amount of cheese on top.

For us, the whole thing was a hit! I will say that I am a bit disappointed that the Indian food truck did not make vegan mango lassis. I mean, why come to a vegan food fest with milk? Gr. But everything else was delicious and satisfying, and we can’t wait to go back!
